If you can't snag a ticket to the star-studded Shakespeare in Central Park, how about Shakespeare in the Parking Lot? You can get your Bard fix at the Municipal Parking Lot across the street from 85 Ludlow (cross streets Broome and Delancey). This has become a summer lower East Side tradition. The shows always start at 8 pm Thursdays to Saturdays and are always free. Arrive early as seats are limited or bring your own.
