Gettysburg

If you're a history buff--especially a Civil War aficionado--- Gettysburg National Military Park is the place to be.

A two minute speech considered a masterpiece of the English language. President Lincoln traveled to Gettysburg to dedicate the National Cemetery.
Visitor Center

President Lincoln spoke after a 2 hour speech by Edward Everett. The President was asked to make "a few appropriate remarks."

Tablets with stanzas from Theodore O'Hara's poem, The Bivouac of the Dead are scattered throughout the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
The graves are in a semi circle.
Soldiers' National Monument, where the Gettysburg Address was delivered. The statue is named "Genius of Liberty" and features four statues in white marble: War, History, Plenty, and Peace. It was sculpted by Randolph Rogers.






Hallowed ground.
