The official announcement for The Actors Fund TONY Serieshas been released! I must say though that I've had my ticket for the May 18th show for about week now. It's a series of concerts leading up to the Tony Awards featuring favorite Broadway performers which will be held at Feinstein's at the Regency. Artists featured are James Barbour (April 27), Andrea Burns(May 4), cast of [Title of Show] (May 11), Julia Murney(May 18) and Norm Lewis(June 1). The series benefits The Actors Fundand will surely be a fun night.
It's another masterpiece from the geniuses at [Title of Show]. Check out the numerous people (including tons of Broadway cameos) who love this show! It makes me miss it even more!

It is a sad day for a theatre geek to find out that a show that spoke to you personally is closing. The producers of [Title of Show] have just announced that the show will soon close on Oct. 12. A few days before, Xanadu, another show that I thoroughly enjoyed also announced it's closing on the same day. What can you say about the state of theatre when two inventive shows that have critical acclaim and have a following among those who love the theatre are closing while mediocre shows (Grease!) are still running?
I first heard about the show when it was Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre and bought the CD when it came out. I've followed their online episodes on youtube - THE [Title of Show] SHOW - but didn't get to see it until this past Sunday (9/14). As I said earlier in this post, the theatre gods blessed me that day.
As Lani posted in her earlier [review of show], it is an irreverent inside look into the making of a musical. It's clever and funny and self-referential but amidst all of these, the show is about having a dream and making it come true. Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell, as they say in their own words......two nobodies in NY.......started writing the show 4 years ago and who knew it would someday be on Broadway. Their story unfolds right before your eyes culminating to their opening night on Broadway. The song above, A Way Back To Then sung by Heidi Blickenstaff (what a voice!) has always been my favorite and has always spoken to me personally. It talks about finding what's important and reconnecting to what you love and finding yourself. What an inspiring piece of writing! So make sure you catch it before it closes. Maybe it will inspire you......however big or small it may be..........to be creative.....go climb a mountain.....run a 5k..... pursue singing or what not........I know for me, it's about taking up dance again. And since then I've found the 5 year old girl that was somehow lost before.

[title of show] is a musical about "two nobodies in New York" writing a musical for a theatre festival, and follows its progress from off-Broadway to Broadway. It features four chairs, four actors playing themselves, a keyboardist and a book about writing the book. Confused? You won't be. The result is a funny, fresh, original piece. Hunter is the funny guy; Jeff's the 'straight man' in this comedy duo. Susan is smart and sassy who makes "Die Vampire, Die!" soar. Heidi is a powerhouse singer and I particularly enjoyed "A Way Back to Then". "Secondary Characters" was hilarious.
It's an irreverent inside look at what goes into the making of a show, complete with voice cameos from Broadway's divas and leading ladies. It's 90 minutes without intermission. There's lots of obscure theatre references but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the show. Go see the show and see if it becomes one of your favorite things.
Oh and while waiting for Mike, Lynn and I were eating appetizers and had a totally rockin' celebrity sighting: Michael "Ben Linus" Emerson from Lost and his wife!
Title of Showis one of the shows I'm most excited to see this season. It just opened on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre but what is it really? Let's let the cast explain shall we?
[TOS] = Title of Show--you know the really awesome show by "2 nobodies in NY"--is moving to Broadway in July! I know this was last week's news but I only got to post this today but it still makes me excited! I didn't get a chance to see it off-Broadway but I have the CD and I really love it. It's very unique......about 2 people writing a musical about bringing a musical to Broadway. Does that description give you a headache or what?! I tell you though, I've loved the video blogs they have been posting on youtube about getting [TOS] to Broadway. I previously posted one of their best episodes here. It will be playing at the Lyceum Theatre and tickets will be available on April 21, 2008.

Title of Show was an Off-Broadway musical in 2006 created by Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen. It's a show about 2 guys writing a musical and the trials and laughs they go through along the way. I have the cd and have enjoyed it a lot. The show is quite witty and has an ingenius way of presenting things. [TOS]....yes that is the abbreviation....has developed a huge cult like following last year.....it was the little show that could.....Off-Broadway. Now with this following, the show's creators have hopes to bring it to Broadway. They have started a [TOS] video blog on youtube (of the TOS show trying to get to Broadway) and it's become very popular! I've followed their episodes and now I'm sharing my favorite one.....check it out!
