Yes! Yes! Yes!
Thank you Theatre Gods!
It's just been announced by Cameron Mackintosh that Samantha Barks will be playing the role of Eponine in the upcoming film of Les Miserables. Ms. Barks played the same role at the West End and at the 25th Anniversary Concert (see above). I loved her performance! Taylor Swift (who we feel was totally wrong for the role) was previously announced as Eponine. Maybe the Theatre Gods heard the uproar of theatre geeks all over the world when Ms. Swift was announced. It's nice to see someone with real theatre chops and amazing voice get the role over someone with a recognized name. Read all about the exciting announcement here.

Anne Hathaway cast as Fantine in new Les Miz movie
The movie version of Les Miserables the musical will be hitting theaters in December 2012 and with the two leads already cast--Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe as Javert--the film seems slated to move forward, with filming being scheduled for March.
It was announced today that Anne Hathaway will be joining the cast. She will play Fantine in the movie, which will be directed by Tom Hooper (Elizabeth I, The King's Speech). I'm quite interested to see how she will pull off the role, which I've always pegged to be right for an actress who's a bit older than Anne, and how she can do the singing. After all, I've only seen her sing in French with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I just happened to catch this performance of the Les Miserables touring cast on last night's America's Got Talent while channel surfing. I will never tire of this song.

Do You Hear the People Sing
Well......only until Jan 6. 2008. By that I mean the revival of Les Miserables on Broadway. Producer Cameron Mackintosh announced that the revival will play its final performance on Jan. 6, 2008. And here I was hoping J Murn would get to play Fantine and I would get to see it. Oh well.
