Born To Run
The opening at last night's Emmy Awards with Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Betty White, Randy Jackson, Jorge Garcia, Tim Gunn, Joel McHale and the cast of Glee. What a great opening number!
Modern Family turned out to be a surprise (everyone was expecting Glee to win) but much deserved winner for the Best Comedy Series. Finally, Jim Parsons of Big Bang Theory wins for Best Actor in a Comedy Series while Jane Lynch wins for Best Supporting Actress. We're happy too that the 2009 Tony Awards also won for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Show. There are many more but congratulations to the winners!

Emmys
The Emmy nominations were announced this morning. I'll just give a quick run-down for the ones I'm especially happy for: Matthew Fox and Lost, Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, My Life on the D-List, and The Colbert Report. Modern Family and its stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen are all in. Our favorite geek Sheldon Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory is now a 2-time Emmy nominee. The Amazing Race is again in the running for Best Reality-Competition Program. There's an SNL showdown in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:Amy Poehler v.Tina Fey. Kristen Wiig is a nominee for Supporting Actress in a Comedy while Betty White also got honored for her SNL hosting stint.
Glee, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, and Matthew Morrison got nods. Kristin Chenoweth (Glee), Jane Lynch(Two and a Half Men) and Elaine Stritch(30 Rock) got nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. For Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series: Neil Patrick Harris(Glee), Jon Hamm (30 Rock), Mike O Malley (Glee).

And the Emmy went to...
So the 61st Primetime Emmys are over. 30 Rock and Madmen won as expected. I am so happy for Toni Collette, Brendan Gleeson, Ellen Burstyn, Michael J. Fox, Justin Timberlake, Cherry Jones and the amazing Michael Emerson (Lynn and I actually saw him and his wife Carrie Preston last year in New York City. We were waiting at a restaurant for Mike before watching [title of show]. Very cool celebrity sighting!)

Emmy update
Joss Whedon finally won an Emmy for Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog! The category was short format live action entertainment program. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out last week. Oh and Intervention won instead of Kathy Griffin's My Life on the D-List :(The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are still going on. Neil Patrick Harris is doing a terrific job as usual(Kudos Marc Shaiman on NPH's opening song!) Jeff Probst was right: this is the way to host the Emmys. Hurray for Kristin Chenoweth (Tony/Emmy winner Cheno was genuinely touched and surprised by her win. Great funny speech.) The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Grey Gardens, The Amazing Race (although Phil didn't win), Hugh Jackman's opening number for the Academy Awards.

Emmy Fever
Emmy nods that I was happy about:
- Outstanding Choreography: 81st Academy Awards Musicals are Back
- Outstanding Comedy Series: Family Guy (The Simpsons people are probably alternately thrilled and disappointed about this.)
- Outstanding Costumes for a Series: dear departed Pushing Daisies *sigh*
- Outstanding Directing for a variety, music or comedy series: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report (These 2 shows also got a bunch of other well-deserved nominations.)
- Outstanding Directing for a variety, music or comedy special: Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony
- Outstanding Guest Actress in Drama Series: Ellen Burstyn and Brenda Blethyn for Law and Order SVU
- Outstanding Guest Actress in Comedy Series: Tina Fey as (thank goodness) ex-Gov. Sarah Palin on SNL and of course, Elaine Stritch on 30 Rock
- Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory. He is so funny and so good. Sheldon rules!
- Outstanding Music and Lyrics: the Oscars Hugh Jackman opening number and A Colbert Christmas
- Outstanding Reality Program: My Life on the D-List. Yey Kathy! Her special She'll cut a Bitch also got a nod. Who's D-list now?
- Outstanding non-Fiction Special: Michael J. Fox Adventures of an Incurable Optimist. This show made me cry.
- Outstanding Special Class Program: 62nd Tony Awards, despite the terrible sound.
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: our Tony and Emmy host, Neil Patrick Harris from How I met your Mother
- Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth from *sniffle* Pushing Daisies, 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski, SNL's Amy Poehler and Kristin Wiig. How about a Grammy or maybe even an Oscar for Cheno?!
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Michael Emerson from Lost. Love him!
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or movie: Gollum himself, Andy Serkis from BBC's Little Dorrit.
The winners of the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on 20 September on CBS at 8 PM.

On To The Emmys
After his remarkable and adorable hosting stint in this year's Tony Awards, Neil Patrick Harris is now off to host the Emmys! I'm sure the Emmy producers were impressed with his recap number from the Tonys. Read about the announcement here. The Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Sept. 20, 2009 on CBS.
